At the luxury end, designer brands are launching childrenswear fashion collections with a new focus, catering to high income families who are not afraid to show their social status via their offspring. Companies like Dolce & Gabbana, Stella McCartney, Marni, Marc Jacobs and Gucci all have collections for baby and mommy alike.
In the US department stores such as Nordstrom and Bergdorft Goodman have expanded their childrenswear offer, whereas in the UK Selfridges and Harrods offer collections for the very fashionably young, including high end designers and luxury goods.
My daughter and I love to shop together. We love to search the racks of clothes for the perfect shirt, jeans, or skirt. We also love to shop for shoes. Since baidu she is 23 years and 20 pounds less than me, it is often more fun to shop for her than me! I go along with the hope of finding something for me and usually do; but for every one item I buy we buy four for her. Being younger and skinnier has it's advantages.
We don't get a lot of time to shop together, especially as the years have gone on, but when we do, we have a wonderful day chatting, shopping and always eating. The only time shopping isn't fun is when we don't stop to eat and suddenly we are both done, it ceases to be fun, deals and clearance cease to hold interest, we become crabby and don't like anything we see. We don't like the fabrics, fits and styles, then we realize it has been hour since last eating and it is time to stop.
Eating in malls is not my idea of eating, so we try to find somewhere nearby where we can enjoy a great meal. Our favorite places to go are those that integrate great dining with great shopping. One of our favorite areas is the shops in Edison, NJ where they do a wonderful job of combining the two. You can literally shop til you drop, and not from hunger but from fatigue. It is a better way to go.
The perfect day, the perfect shopping companion, the perfect whether, the perfect restaurants to give us strength to find the perfect deal and fit. It is more of a quest than you might realize. Nothing ruins a great day of shopping like being hungry and nothing enhances a great day of shopping than a great meal.
Some designer houses like Oscar de la Renta and Marni say their designs are clothes appropriate for kids. But there are plenty of miniature versions of the adult looks that are sophisticated and very expensive.
