Hey Monitorlove,
to me the c55 had even more detail than all of the speakers in the test but the kh 310. I had a big Rock mix with me in the store and it sounded more powerfull and clear on the c55 than on any other system (but the kh 310).
My impression of the kh120 was that they would propably fit better to a HipHop or EDM producer thant to me. The boomynes in the Midrange made them cover a lot of information there.
As I tryed to say I´m not that sure aboute the focals as they are praised everywhere. I personaly did not hear that much praise-worthy in them as they where kind of dull and I would propably mix very harsh cymbals on them.Maybe the particular pair I listend to did not have the recomended "burn in time".
As far as translation I did not finish any mixes in the time I own my own pair but I can say that the area around 8k is much more revealing on the c55 than on my M-Audios (which is definately a unfair comparison) I know that because that area sounds much less harsh in my car on my newer (unfinished) mixes. Adiddionally I can mix the low end much more reliable on the c55 than on my old M-Audios I still have some problems due to my room but it already got better.
Additional basstraps are going to be build in the upcoming holiday season
Why don´t you compare the c55 yourselve Monitorlove, I think they are absolutely worth it
