Meridian 588 CD Player<>Meridian is the leader in high-end CD playback, and has held that pre-eminent position since 1984. Since then we have introduced 20 CD player models ?each one advancing performance. This steady process of redefining CD has been recognised by more than 50 industry awards and has made Meridian synonymous with the very best in CD. <>Meridian抯 finest CD players to date are the venerable 508 and the astonishing 800 CD/DVD Machine. 508 alone has enjoyed more than 20 awards, including a Class 慉?rating from Stereophile, who, when faced with the superb performance of 800, had to add the Class A+ rating!
Product/588 CD Player<>
<> Meridian players do not use 憃ff the peg?solutions but are designed and built from the ground up to provide the finest sound, the most robust disc handling and lasting quality. Following our great success with 800 we have decided to bring some of its advanced technology to a very exciting new player ?the 588.<>588 uses a precision ROM drive to read information from the discs using a technology developed for the Meridian 800 Series. This drive抯 precise pickup system is optimised for CD and CDR playback. <>The data from the disc is checked, corrected and decoded using an extremely powerful digital processing system. Within the data path are three large memory buffers ?each one in turn establishing smoother data flow so that the final audio has the lowest possible jitter. These steps all ensure that you can enjoy the highest quality audio from your discs. <>Advanced digital and analogue design and construction techniques combine to provide the highest performance. 588 is built using 6-layer PCBs, 7 separate power supplies, the latest surface-mount technology and components which have been carefully selected to optimise sound quality. <>The 588 operating software has been developed by Meridian and benefits from our vast expertise on CD navigation, playability and sound quality. <>In addition to CD the 588 can replay MP3 discs giving the best access to playback long-playing audio collections on a main system. MP3 discs can include personal albums (MP3 files optionally grouped as albums by directory) on a Recordable CD (CD-R).
An RS232 port supports full control of the player and provides for future software updates.

How can a ROM drive be so good?
ROM drives recover the data from computer discs perfectly. Loading a computer program rarely fails due to the ROM drive. Therefore, extracting the data from a CD can be done without error. In fact, 588 will often read the data from the disc more than once just to be sure it has it right.
Normally, however, a computer pays no attention to how smoothly the data flows from the disc. For high quality audio the final audio must flow very smoothly ?without jitter. That抯 where our special technology comes in. From leaving the drive, the information is in the hands of very sophisticated digital audio circuitry to give both the highest data integrity and the lowest jitter.

Sound Quality
588 maximises sound quality by reducing jitter to very low levels. Unlike other players that try to lower jitter by controlling drive vibration, the 588抯 triple buffer memory architecture abolishes this problem forever.
In 588 the audio is controlled using a precise master oscillator located within the final output section. The result of this sophisticated effort is a clear, open, authoritative sound.
The digital output is precision re-clocked.
The stereo analogue output uses 192kHz 24-bit advanced DACs combined with a superb direct-coupled audiophile-standard output amplifier.
