“In our opinion, the -3dB at 50Hz is correct as laboratory signal, but corresponds to an extremely high reproduction level of low frequencies, a condition very difficult to find in the normal musical content. Also, it is almost sure that at these levels the distortion produced by the woofer at 50hz will be much higher than the one due to the transformers of Formula.
Given that Formula xHD is a true modular DAC, we have in development a new revision of XLR board with a new output transformer: our goal will be to combine sound quality, "nuances" and instrumental measurements.
I contacted John Atkinson and he will make a new "follow up" review of the updated Formula with new transformers for XLR output.”
