When compared head-to-head with the C-5xeMP, the QB-9 was, however narrowly, the consistent winner with "Red Book" material. That preference became even more marked when I used Amarra, which provides positive results with nearly every album I sample (though its benefits are most pronounced with CDs released in the 1980s and early ’90s). There will always be those who prefer the single-chassis plug’n’play CD player to computer audio, but for those who decide to go the latter route, a C-5xeMP or other cutting-edge disc spinner in the same system is simply redundant unless you have a significant collection of titles on SACD. Extrapolating to the Minerva, whose sound didn’t quite equal the old C-5xe’s, the QB-9 reigned sonically superior.

My Reference 1 arrived a couple of weeks ago. Wow!

My Reference 1 arrived the week before last. It sounded dreadful out of the box (Dull, lifeless and bland).

After a couple of weeks of constant run in it is transformed into the best DAC I have ever heard by a wide margin. It replaces a Cambridge 840C and Wadia 581 but I have also had a Naim Dac with XPS power supply at home for extended listen.

The sheer neutrality of it is really impressive. It doesn't dictate what sort of music I should listen to. ACDC sounds aggressive and angry where the Naim made it pleasant and friendly. It is as big a bargain as the musiland 02us was which I still use for digital input into the reference 1 (I have a Hiface on the way). It really manages to bring out the magic from music irrespective of genre.

It beats the Naim in every area in my system by a wide margin. I cant imagine anyone would purchase the Naim if they heard the reference 1. It makes my old wadia seem cold and uncommunicative.

Thank you very much for the usefull info on the reference 1. It still seemed a big risk ordering a DAC I had never heard but WOW! what a great payoff for bravery.

The 840C has really nice and easy to listen with great bass extension, nice imaging, natural tone and was unfatiguing. It didn't favour any genre of music.

It was a worthwhile step up on the Musical Fidelity A3-24 DAC I had before it. I owned the Wadia 581 for about a year during which time I also had the Cambridge 840C and a Cambridge Dacmagic and approximately 3 months ago a Musiland monitor 02us. I also have Asus Xonar ST & STX soundcards (with opamps upgraded to lme49720nas)

Compared to the Dacmagic the 840C sounds more natural with significant improvements in Bass depth and imaging. The usb input on the dacmagic was absolutely rubish to my ears and hugely improved on by the musiland.

Compared to the wadia the 840C had a little less detail and slightly less bass weight but seemed to be less fatiguing than the wadia. I found myself listening more to the stereo with the 840C than the one with the wadia. (This was probably partly because the wadia was being used as preamp as well and only has full resolution between 80-100(out of 100) on the volume dial)

The Naim Dac with XPS power supply sounded much better than the 840C at acoustic music and vocals but too polite on metal and dance. The Reference 1 takes all the positives of every dac I have heard and improves upon them dramatically or probably to be more acurate it removes the flaws I have heard in every other dac i.e. nil fatigue, nil favoured music genre, no emphasis on any area of sound spectrum.

It is by a long way the most musical dac I have ever heard. I feel emotion listening to music through the reference 1 that I haven't felts since I got rid of my high end turntable.

The reference 1 is so good I am sure I will upgrade all my electronics to audio-gd

I currently use a Linn Kairn (with slimline brilliant psu) Preamp and 4 Linn Mono blocks biamped through Monitor Audio PL300 speakers.

To sum up the Reference 1 is a significant step up from any DAC I have heard and communicates music way better which is surely what it is all about.

吃饱饭了，为啥大家都和usb缸上了呢
顶级的数字声卡Weiss AF1也就两万不到，好的数字卡RME AES32七八千，Lynx AES16四五千
配上DA11也好，其他三小强也好，肯定比Ayre强

前几个星期在极品听过AYRE USB解码器很靓声,卖价一万八港币〔代理话好声十万元CD组合〕,以后会USB取代CD,个人认为不要在CD上投入太多.

1、目前只试cd抓轨的格式，也就是16/44的规格，但已经很接近我的AYRE D-1，只是在宽松度和音场上略逊一筹。如果是24/96格式，因目前缺少相应的文件，尚无法比较。我想肯定很可观。"

呵呵，谢谢林总捧场。QB9煲了一个月，提升惊人，当然也可能不是QB9的提升，而是HD800的提升.........or both?
现在每天听至少5小时以上，多时10小时，想想DAC1扔在那里一年没有听的情景，真是冰火两重天啊.........

27. QB9与QBD76比较

I am in the same situation with r2d2, i.e. QBD76 or QB-9 and still undecided. Having read all good reviews about QB-9, I auditioned QB-9 with a high expectation. It was indeed very good with very detailed and clear sound. After auditioned QB-9 for an hour, I switched to QBD76 and was shocked with it. It was even better! QBD76 made every music livelier and enjoyable. QBD76 sounds very different from other DACs I auditioned -QB-9, Esoteric D-07 and Berkeley Alpha. Weakness may be that QBD76 could be tiring for long listening. I am undecided due to its price tag: QBD76 US$5,500 vs. QB-9 US$3,000 here in Tokyo.

28. QB-9 与 Wolfson 8741 DAC

I have only been able to compare my QB-9 to the Wolfson 8741 DAC in my Arcam CD player, I actually went and had a listen to answer your question. IMO the QB-9 is less analytical than the Wolfson, the QB-9 is smoother.

In general I couldn't be happier! If I wasn't satisfied I would own a different DAC.
